Bioclimatic pergolas in Almeria
A louvred roof: open for air and light, closed for shade.
A bioclimatic pergola is an aluminium frame with a roof of louvres that turn. Open, they let air and light through; closed, they give shade and cover the terrace. There is no fabric to roll away: the roof stays in place and you decide how far it opens.
Toldobox fits them in homes across Almeria, either fixed to the house or standing on their own posts in the garden. Every photo on this page is a bioclimatic pergola we installed ourselves.
Fixed to the house
The most common layout: one side rests on the wall of the house, the other on posts, turning the terrace next to the house into an outdoor living room. In this project it covers the whole seating area, and with the louvres open, light still reaches the windows.
Freestanding
When the area to cover is away from the house, the pergola stands on four posts. We built this one by a pool, over the dining area and outdoor kitchen: with the louvres closed, the table is in the shade in high summer.
With LED lighting
An LED strip can run around the inside of the frame. At night it lights the terrace indirectly. The photos show one just finished, switched on at dusk.
Closing the sides
A bioclimatic pergola covers from above. To block the low evening sun or the wind on one side, that side can be closed with a vertical blind. We look at it with you when we measure.

Do you come and measure?
Yes. We visit, measure, check where it will be fixed and then give you the quote.
Does it have to be fixed to the house?
No. It can be wall-mounted or freestanding on its own posts. This page shows both.
Can it have lighting?
Yes, an LED strip inside the frame. There is one lit up at night in the photos above.
Do I need permission?
It depends on your town hall and, in a block of flats, on your community of owners. Check first; we give you the measurements so you can ask.
How much does it cost?

Shade sails
A shade sail is a fabric sheet fixed by its corners to posts or to the wall. It gives shade without a roof structure: over a patio, a play area or by the pool. If you are interested, tell us about the spot and we will look at it when we measure.
